The Chief executive officer of the American Institute of Arts, Robert Ivy has been honored with the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was given by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. Mr. Ivy has entered the books of records as the first architect to have received the award (MIAL). The Lifetime Achievement Award is often given to artists and patrons within Mississippi whose work is considered exemplary. There are several other people who have received the same award. They include people such as Morgan Freeman, Eudora Welty, artist Walter Anderson among others.
Nancy LaForge, the president of MIAL congratulated Robert Ivy terming him as a person with diverse talents. “As a writer, author and commentator in the field of architecture, Robert Ivy has been instrumental in empowering the public on how architecture can be used to transform the lives of common people; we are pleased to select his as the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award because he truly deserves it,” said LaForge.
On the other hand, Carl Elefante the president of the American Institute of Architects praised Robert Ivy for being selected as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award.

He said that Robert Ivy has been instrumental in bridging the gap between architecture and other disciplines. “Since being appointed as CEO of the American Institute of Architects, Mr. Ivy has brought about changes that had never been witnessed before,” said Elefante. He said that he was truly delighted to see that Ivy had been selected as the recipient of the prestigious award.
Apart from the Lifetime Achievement Award, Mr. Robert Ivy has also received other awards such as being named the Master architect by the American architect’s fraternity; he has also received the Dean’s medal from the University Arkansas School of architecture among other awards.
Prior being appointed as CEO at the American Institute of Architecture, Robert Ivy was the Editor-in-chief of the Architectural Record according to aiacontracts.org. During his tenure, he brought about major changes in the editorial section and used the publishing house to promote architecture across the country.
Robert Ivy will be presented with the award alongside his other nominee later in June this year. Speaking after receiving the news, Mr. Robert Ivy said that it was a great honor for him to be selected as a recipient of the Noel Polk award. He said that the award was a sign that there are people who are appreciating his efforts in as the CEO of AIA. The AIA has as one of its goals to reimagine the role of architects and designers. The organization has more than 90,000 members around the US.
